Ellen Nelson, 96, of Nisswa, passed away Wednesday, March 21, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd. Visitation and celebration of Ellens life will be from 4:00 until 6:00 PM Sunday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Monday, March 26, at Sunset Memorial Park, 2250 St. Anthony Blvd. in Minneapolis.
Ellen Anita Nelson was born on August 22, 1910, in Palermo, ND, the daughter of John E. and Hilda (Storlien) Welsh. She was called from this life Wednesday, March 21, 2007, in Brainerd, MN. She had attained the age of 96 years, 4 months, and 29 days.

Ellen grew up in Minneapolis and graduated from South High School. On August 31, 1934 she was united in marriage to Leonard T. Nelson in Cresco, IA. To this union two children, Judith and Ted, were born. She loved to read and continued to take classes that interested her until she was into her 60s. During her working years she held leadership positions in the Soroptimist Club and the Business Womens Club of West Hennepin County. She was very artistic and painted pictures in either watercolor or oil and in her later years she enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles.

Ellen was preceded in death by her parents, John and Hilda; her husband, Leonard in 1990; sister, Margaret Beaudry; and brothers, Hershel Welsh and Francis Welsh. She is mourned in passing by her children, Judy (Robert) Arneson of Nisswa, and Leonard TedNelson, Jr. of Portland OR; granddaughters, Kristen Cornwall, Marcia Driscoll, Andrea Plant, and Nicola Long; and eight great-grandchildren.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
