Ellen Davis

Ellen M. Davis, 91, of Brainerd died at her home with her daughter, Jan and friend, Teri by her side on Tuesday, February 28, 2012. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1:00 PM at the Church of the Nazarene in Brainerd, MN.

Ellen was born on May 24, 1920 in Vinton, Iowa to John and Flora Mina (Pettit) Burkart. At an early age Ellen and her family moved to the Backus area. Ellen met Lyle Davis and they were married on March 9, 1937 and they lived in Brainerd where they raised their family. Ellen worked for the State Hospital in Brainerd for twenty three years until her retirement in 1982. She was a charter member of the Brainerd Nazarene Church and was very active in Sunday school and Missionary Ministries. Ellen and Lyle loved to travel. She also enjoyed being a hostess and entertaining family and friends. One of Ellen's greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren.

Ellen is survived by her daughters, Jan Lee of Brainerd, MN, Nancy (Lauren) Anderson of Alexandria, MN; son, Kelly (Sandra) Davis of Boise, ID; daughter-in-law, Valeda Davis of Idaho Falls, ID; grandchildren, Vincent Hurtig, Lisa Warren, Bethany Cyr, Debra Jessee, Randy Davis, Sarah Krantz, Matthew Anderson, and Dan Anderson; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Flora; husband, Lyle; son, Larry; and her siblings. Memorials are preferred to the church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
