Ella E. Topp, age 96, of Motley, passed away at the Lakewood Care Center, on Sunday, October 21st. A celebration of life is planned for Thursday, October 25th, at 11:00, at the United Methodist Church in Motley. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at the Motley Public Cemetery.
Ella Elizabeth (Hoover) Topp was born March 1st, 1916 in Moosejaw, Canada, to Harvey and Amelia (Peterson) Hoover. Her family grew to include two brothers (Ray, Earl) and her much prayed for little sister (Eileen). They spent time in Canada and eventually settled in Mildred, MN. Ella spent her early years learning, which culminated with a Bachelors Degree from St. Cloud State. She taught in rural schools in Mildred and the Lincoln area. She married Arnold Topp on June 8th, 1942, in Duluth, MN. After settling down in Lincoln, they spent many hard working years on their farm. During this time she raised two daughters while also teaching in the Staples School System. After Arnold's death in 1979, she spent time traveling, and dedicated herself to capturing and preserving the history of the local area authoring and contributing to several books. She was a devout member of the Motley United Methodist Church. She was also an avid member of the Motley Historical Society.
Left to cherish her life are, daughters, Mary and Linda; grandson, Jason (Deanna) Horner; great-grandchildren, Caden and Ella; sister, Eileen (Vern) Carlson; sisters-in-law, Miriam Carlson and Mary Hoover; many appreciated nieces, nephews, cousins, and those "adopted" daughters and sons, who were a joy to her.
Arrangements have been entrutsted to Brenny Funeral Home in Staples.
