Elizabeth S. Klaverkamp, a friend of dogs (especially Dobermans) and people?not necessarily in that order, passed away Sunday morning, July 11, 2004, in her sleep. She was 71.
Liz was a free spirit. She loved life, and had a good one in spite of the imperfections of her husband, Bob Klaverkamp. Born in Edina, MN, she married Bob in August of 1957 and they went immediately to Tokyo, Japan, where they lived for the next 30 years. Bob was a correspondent for United Press (UP). Liz was active in the Jewish Community Center, the International Ladies Benevolent Society, American Club, St. Mary?s International School and other charities. She collected art and spent like a sailor after her husband joined Reader?s Digest and later Time-Warner Inc. They had very little money in their early years but Liz made up for the lost time when she got the chance. She also worked for an importer of Chinese goods when China was still under Communist control and later for a Japanese fashion designer, Yuya. After Tokyo, Liz and Bob moved to Hong Jong where they spent seven years before returning to Minnesota in 1994. They lived on Sylvan Lake. Their favorite establishements to visit each week were Shep?s, Ye Olde Pickle Factory and Kelly?s. They loved the Brainerd Lakes area. Liz had dogs (and cats) all her life. She loved them. Along with deer, birds, rabbits, and chipmunks, which filled her front yard. She has eternal youth, a sense of humor, was a great cook and loved all her friends.
She is survived by her husband, Bob; son, Geoff and daughter-in-law, Daeng; grandson Jason; brother and sister-in-law, Paul and Joan Klaverkamp; grand nephews and niece, Jon, Joel, Greg and Lisa; and her pet dog, Tiger.
Funeral Services will be 3 PM Thursday, July 15 at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter with Charles Nauen officiating. Visitation will be from 6-7 PM on Wednesday, July 14 at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at the Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa. Memorials are preferred to H.A.R.T. Animal Center.
