Elizabeth "Bette" Hunter, age 85, of Staples, passed away peacefully on Friday, Sept. 19, 2008, at the Lakewood Care Center. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, September 26, at the United Methodist Church in Staples. Friends may call from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples and for one hour prior to services at the Church on Friday. There will also be a Memorial Service at 11:00 AM Saturday, Sept. 27, at West Bethel United Methodist Church in East Bethel, MN.
Elizabeth Ann Hunter was born on June 22, 1923, in Minneapolis, MN, the daughter of Herbert and Laura (Briggs) Trickey. She graduated from Marshall High School in Minneapolis. On April 22, 1946, she was united in marriage to David Hunter. To this union 5 children were born. She worked for Thermal Systems, Inc in Shoreview, MN, for many years before retiring in June of 1993. Bette was a social, outgoing, and active person and had many friends. She was a Wednesday night bowler, and a member of the Womens International Bowling Congress. An active member of West Bethel United Methodist Church in East Bethel, MN, she sang in the choir among other activities. She was chairperson of the social committee at work, and an avid sports fan, especially the Twins. During the summer months she coached in the local softball league. In 1998 she moved to Staples, following a stroke, to be near her daughter.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Laura; her husband, David; a son Mark; and her siblings. Bette will be lovingly missed by her children; Amy Hunter of Staples, MN, Kevin Hunter of New Mexico, Nancy Hunter of Huntington, WV, and Patricia (Thomas) Shaw of Sandy UT; grandchildren, Mark Riley, Dustin (Kacie) Hjelmeland, Kelsey Hjelmeland, Nadine (Jon) LeRoy; Herbert (Cassy) Schneider, Joshua (Ale) Schneider, David Shaw, and Caitlin Shaw; and great grandchildren, Jason, Alex, Josh, Jakob, and Drew.
