Eleanor Shamp

February 12, 1923 — June 3, 2009

Eleanor Edna Shamp, 86, of Brainerd, died Wednesday, June 03, 2009 at the St. Josephs Medical Center in Brainerd. Services for Eleanor will be at 3 PM, Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter. Friends are welcome to visit one hour prior to services. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery in Nisswa, MN.
Eleanor was born February 12, 1923 in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of James Bruce and Serena Hilda (Gatewood) Salley. After receiving her teaching degree, Eleanor taught for many years at Motley Public Schools. She also was an owner of Fishermans Inn in Nisswa. Eleanor liked to quilt, paint and play cards. She also enjoyed reading. She was a member of the American Legion in Nisswa and the Eagles. She was active at the Brainerd and Pequot Lakes Senior Citizen Centers. She was a member of Retired Educators.

Eleanor will be missed by her son, Michael Stephen Foster, of Sartell; her daughter, Judith Ann Mattson, of Sioux Falls, SD; her sister, Roberta BeeWorkman, of Nisswa; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Irene Cara Smith; her brother, Dwight Lee Salley; and her husbands, Gordon Foster, Joe Vargo, and Archie Shamp.
