Elaine A. Schumer of Upsala, 81, passed away on Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at Diamond Willows in Little Falls, MN. Visitation will be held 4-8PM on Sunday August 18, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala, MN. Funeral Mass will be held Monday, August 19, 2019 at 11AM Sunday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with an additional visitation one hour prior.
Elaine was born April 27, 1938 to Frank & Mary Sanoski in Little Falls, MN. The second of seven children, she went to the country school near Flensburg, and graduated from St. Francis high school in Little Falls. She was married to Joe Schumer at Sacred Heart Church in Flensburg on June 1, 1960. They lived in St. Joseph for two years, then moved to Upsala for the rest of her life. She raised nine children as the homemaker on their family farm, and in 2007 they bought a home in Upsala to retire in. She also worked as a cook at the schools of Upsala and Holdingford. In June 2004, she retired from the cooking position at the school.
She was an active member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Upsala, was a Christian Mother, funeral luncheon member, and said the rosary daily. She was also a member of the Crosier Apostle. She enjoyed quilting, making her famous banana breads, playing cards of many games, going to the casinos, and taking frequent trips to Laughlin, NV. She also enjoyed playing bingo, watching the MN Twins, and going to the area church and city festivals.
Elaine is survived by her loving husband Joe, of Upsala; children Pat & Lynn of Shoreview; Marvin & Gayle of Big Lake; Tim & Anita of Inola, OK; Steve & Laurie of Manvel, ND; Michelle of Upsala; Rob of Upsala; Alan of St. Cloud; Mark & Annette of Gilman; Sherry of Little Falls; brothers Ed (Judy) Sanoski of Flensberg; Andy Sanoski of Deerwood; sister Carol Sanoski of Maple Grove; 14 grandkids; 3 great grandkids; and godchildren Juan Zamora and Carlos Hernandez of Guatemala. She is preceded in in death by her parents, Frank and Mary; brothers George, Lenny, and Bernard.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like donations sent to CHI Hospice.
