Ed was born on his family’s farm in Milaca, MN on March 29, 1941 to Harry and Helen(Watt) Larsen. He graduated high school from Milaca High School. He then attended St. Cloud State University where he earned his teaching degree. Ed started teaching in Roseville, MN in 1963 and during the summers went to the U of M where he earned his Master’s Degree in Science and then his Administrative Degree. Ed married Judy Weber in Roseville, MN on April 28, 1972. They moved to Northfield, MN where Ed became the Assistant Principal for their junior high school. In 1983, Ed and Judy moved to Pequot Lakes, MN where they made their permanent home. Ed was the Principal of Pequot Lakes School for 15 years, before retiring in 1997. After retirement Ed worked for the Minnesota Department of Education. Being active in his community and helping the community was very important to Ed as was his passion for environmental causes. Ed was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, MN where he also served as the President of the church counsel. He served as the Mayor of Pequot Lakes, MN while he was the Principal of Pequot Lakes School for several terms. He was a former Pequot Lakes Lion member, chamber member, and on the Pine River Watershed Committee. Ed served as the Crow Wing County Commissioner for 8 years and also had a very large part in reviving the Pequot Lakes Bean Hole Days in 1984. As you can see the community was a very important part of his life and his finger prints are on almost every area in Pequot Lakes, where he was named Citizen of the Year. Ed enjoyed being at the family’s cabin, outdoors, fishing, and hunting. Ed’s greatest accomplishment and source of so much pride was his family. Spending time with them and his grandchildren brought so much joy to Ed’s life. He will be sadly missed by them all.
Ed is survived by his wife, Judy; children, Elliot Larsen of Pequot Lakes, MN, Christina (Mike) Amble of Bemidji, MN, and Douglas (Beth) Larsen of Cold Spring; grandchildren, Michael, Jacob, Ava, and Paige; sisters, Ethel (Harvey) Longlois, and Dorothy (Rod) Persson; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes, MN.
