Edna Knapper, age 87, of Motley, passed away early Monday morning at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, September 15, 2006, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Staples with Rev. Steve Sveom officiating. Friends may call Thursday beginning at 5:00 at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Evergreen Hills Cemetery in Staples. Edna was born in Butternut, WI, the daughter of Henry and Antonia (Spranger) Amelung. She was married on June 28, 1941, to Martin Knapper on her parents farm. They made their home on a farm north of Leader until moving the family to a farm north of Motley where they raised 8 children. She was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church of Motley and a local Ladies Club and Birthday Club. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, feeding birds, watching her humming birds, baking bread, sewing, crocheting and crafts. She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Antonia; her husband Martin in 1970; a grandson, Kevin Hansen; and brothers, Edwin, Raymond, and Norman Amelung. Edna is mourned in passing by her children, Edwin (Elaine) Knapper of Isanti, Janet (Bill) Opheim of Motley, Jean Hansen (Mike Johnson) of Motley, Ken (Dorothy) Knapper of Burtrum, Frank (Wally) Knapper of Cambridge, Daryl Knapper of Motley, Jerry Knapper of Minneapolis, and Robert Knapper of Motley; 10 grandchildren, Pam (Jason), Wanda (Rich), Rod (Sandy), Brenda (Matt), Ron (Wendy), Wayne (Jody), Belinda (Waylon), Rob (Dawn), Ashley, and Amanda; and 15 great grandchildren; Darin, Blake, Grant, Dan, Becky, Mardi, Alli, Ben, Sara, Kelsey, Brady, Adam, Malana, Sam K, Sam O.; a brother, Carl (Elva) Amelung of Silver Bay; and a sister, Elsie Barrus of Woodland ,CA.
