Edna Elyea

Edna Marie (Hovland) Elyea passed away Friday, May 18, 2018 in Eden Prairie. Services for Marie will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 26, 2018 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services.

Marie was born November 8, 1928, in Las Vegas, New Mexico, the daughter of Elmer and Ruth (Ramsay) Hovland. In 1955, she married Theodore Elyea. The couple made their home in Woodstock, IL until 1977 when the family moved to Pequot Lakes to pursue Ted and Marie’s dream of a hobby farm. Marie worked as a night-time operator for Arvig Telephone until her retirement. When Ted purchased and operated Corral Auto in Brainerd with a partner, Marie did the bookkeeping for the shop. Marie was happiest when she was planning on or working in their gardens. She also loved wildlife, especially birds.

She will be missed by her daughter, Janice (Kurt) Elyea-Wheeler, of Eden Prairie; grandsons, Bryan Elyea-Wheeler, of Eveleth, Nathan and Jason Elyea-Wheeler, of Eden Prairie; brother, Johnny Hovland, of Rapid City, SD; and sister, Petra Hovland, of Moses Lake, WA. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Leslie; husband, Ted; brothers, Roy, Melvin, Ralph and Galyn Hovland; and sister, Bonnie (Hovland) MacLeod.
