Earl Walter

Earl D. Walter, 96, of Brainerd died on Wednesday, June 3, 3014 at Woodland Good Samaritan Village in Brainerd, MN. Funeral Services for Earl will be held on Monday, June 9, 2014 at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd, MN at 11:00AM with Pastor Steven Benson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services at the church.

Earl was born on July 28, 1917 in Gibbon, MN to Samuel and Martha (Thiem) Walter. Earl was raised in Gibbon and married Norma Bleck there on June 23, 1941. Earl played baseball for the Gibbon hometown team and enjoyed baseball all of his life. He served in the United States Navy during WWII. In 1946, Earl and Norma moved to Brainerd, MN, where they purchased Pine Ridge Resort on Wise Lake. He worked for Northern Pacific Railroad at the car shop. When Earl and Norma retired they moved to their home on the Crow Wing River in Pillager, MN. His passions were hunting, fishing, and gardening. Earl and Norma moved to Brainerd, MN in their final years.

Earl is survived by his wife, Norma; daughters, Barbara Stegeman and Janice (Ted) Freimuth; grandchild, Melissa (Rick) Roberts; great-grandsons, Samuel and Luke Roberts. He was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel and Martha; and brother, Delmar. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
