Duwayne Schmidt

Duwayne Howard (Sonny) Schmidt , 72, of Pine River passed away Friday, June 13 at Whispering Pines Good Samaritan Center in Pine River. Born May 3, 1936 in Pequot Lakes to Howard and Carrie (Shaw) Schmidt.
Sonny was the oldest of 13 children. He worked as a lumberjack and gravedigger. He enjoyed sport, hunting, games and puzzles and was an avid reader of Zane Grey books. Sonny loved his new home at Whispering Pines and was selected "Valentine Prince" twice.
He is survived by his siblings; Darlene Olson (Raymond), Kenneth Schmidt (Shirley), Karen Filsmyer, Kathleen Newman (Kenneth), Joyce Martin (Albert), James Schmidt (Randi), Cary Schmidt (Anita), Tommie Schmidt (Deborah).
Several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Janice and Sherene and two infant sisters.
Services will be 1pm Tuesday, June 17 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes with Pastor Paul Jensen officiating. Visitation will be Monday from 5 to 7 pm at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River.
