Duane Eveland, age 85, of Backus, MN, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 4, 2016. Duane was born June 30, 1931, to Ray and Flora (Arbogast) Eveland in Backus. When he was nine months old his family moved to the location in Backus which was his home for the remainder of his life. On January 1, 1957, Duane married Donna Rice of Backus while serving in the military at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
In his early years Duane was an entrepreneur and started various businesses. In 1971, Duane, his brother Gerald and sister Gladys started Scamp Travel Trailers in Backus and he worked in the business until he retired.
Duane truly loved the Lord. He was active in the churches he attended and had a wonderful knowledge of the Bible. He taught Sunday School and Bible studies for many years, and especially enjoyed teaching prophecy.
Some of Duane's passions in life were farming, gardening, deer hunting and ice fishing. He enjoyed going for rides on his four wheeler in the woods. He was an amazing gardener and spent his summers taking care of his vegetables. He always seemed to have an overabundance of produce and loved to give it away!
Duane loved getting together with all his siblings many times a year. He was a family man and very proud of his children. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Duane was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: John, Gerald, Bert, Earl, Dwight and Glen; sisters: Helen, Gladys, Betty and Carol; and son-in-law, Steven Fisher.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Donna; his sons: Mike (MaryLou) Eveland of Texas, Kent (Therese) Eveland of Backus and Keith (Lori) Eveland of Shoreview, MN; daughters: Danette (Glen) Jerry of Blaine, MN, and Garnet (Blair) Zaffke of Backus; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren; brothers: Don (Mary) Eveland of Backus, Larry (Elizabeth) Darby of Brazil: sister, Mona Bean of Pine River, MN; sisters-in-law: Fern Eveland, Sandra Eveland and Helen Duncan; many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
A funeral service will be held Saturday, September 10, at 11:00 AM at Pine Mountain Gospel Church in Backus. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home in Pine River and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Mildred Cemetery, Backus, MN.
