Duain M. "Sonny" Guin, age 78, of Fort Ripley, died peacefully February 10, 2012 at his home of mesothelioma lung cancer. He is survived by his three children, Stacy (Mary) Guin, of Minnetonka, Kathy (Steve) Koch, of Chaska, and Margaret "Peggy" (Pete) Clements, of McGregor; former spouse, Marlene Guin, of Champlin; sister, Maxine (William) Diercks, of Steeleville, IL; many friends; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death and now joins his parents and beloved dog, Mindy.
He was born and raised in Brainerd where he and Marlene raised their family. He moved to Fort Ripley in 1994 where he enjoyed his home on the Nokasippi River. He served in the US Navy and was a life-long employee of Burlington Northern Railroad. His passions were fishing, hunting, wood-working, and family.
Per his wishes, there will be no viewing. He has chosen to donate his body to the University if Minnesota for research in helping to find a cure for Mesothelioma lung cancer. In lieu of flowers, memorial preferred.
A celebration of his life will be held at the Brainerd Lakes Area Senior Center, 803 Kingwood Street, on Saturday, February 18, 2012 from 11 AM - 2PM. Lunch will be served.
