Dorothy Lucille Lande, 90, of Fifty Lakes, died Saturday, August 19, 2017 at the St. Cloud Hospital. Services were held Saturday, August 26, 2017 at Crosslake Evangelical Free Church (The Log Church) in Crosslake. Interment took place at Swanburg Cemetery in Pine River.
Dorothy was born July 9, 1927 in Escanaba, MI, the daughter of Carl and Helen Lang. She grew up and was educated in Escanaba and graduated from high school in 1945. She continued her education at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Business. While at the University she met John Lande and in 1951 the couple married. They lived in Bloomington and operated the family business, General Parts and Supply Company. They retired in 1974. In 1977, they winterized their lake cabin and moved to Fifty Lakes. John died in August of 1992.
Dorothy was known to many as the Queen of Scrabble, she knew more two letter words than Merriam-Webster! Other favorite past times were playing Bingo and watching Westerns and old movies. Whenever friends or family came to the area it was always an honor to be invited to Dorothy's for her famous waffles. While there, you had an opportunity to write in her Guest Book. Her grandkids have fond memories of 'froggin', swimming at the covered bridge, and having waffle eating contests.
Dorothy was committed to her Faith and passionate about sharing Jesus Christ with everyone she met.
She will be missed by her children, Jeffrey (Susan) Lande, of Crosslake, Dwight (Danette) Lande, of Destin, FL, and Kathryn Lande, of Fifty Lakes; grandchildren, PJ Lande, Kelli Lande, Alyssa Lande, and Nicole Lande; and three great-grandchildren, Bren Peterson, Cash Peterson, and Lila Lande. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
