Dorothy Dumke

Dorothy Dumke, age 101, a resident of Brainerd, died Sunday 4/9/06 at Bethany Good Samaritan in Brainerd. Services will be Friday at 2 PM at Bethany Good Samaritan Village Chapel with Reverend Lilja Behr officiating, burial will be in the Fleming Lake Cemetery in Fleming Township. Friends may call one hour prior to services at Bethany.
Dorothy was born on 9/6/1904 in Chadwick, Illinois daughter of the late John and Emma (Hartman) Zugschwerdt. The family moved to South Dakota. When he was a young child the family took a covered wagon west then returned to Garden City, South Dakota. She was united in marriage to Earl Dumke on October 16, 1924 in Watertown, South Dakota. In the late 40s, they moved to Fleming Township in Aitkin County where they farmed and ran a fishing resort on Fleming Lake till the early 80s. They moved to Brainerd in the 80s. She was married to Earl 72 years at the time of his death in 1996. She was an active member of the Fleming Methodist Church Ladies Guild and member of Lord of Life Lutheran in Baxter. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and fishing.

Dorothy is survived by one son, William (Sandy) Dumke of Pequot Lakes; one daughter, Arlene (Lester) Schneider of Canton, So Dakota; six grandchildren 11 great grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband Earl; six brothers and three sisters.
