Dorothy Buckingham

January 31, 1929 — August 28, 2017

Dorothy Marie (Swallow) “Dot” Buckingham, of Brooklyn Center, died peacefully in her sleep on August 28, 2017, at her lake home on Gull Lake, after a courageous battle with breast cancer. At her specific request, there will be no services or viewing. The family will gather to scatter her ashes at the cabin, to join those of her husband, Don, and son, Randy, who preceded her in death. At a later date, the family will invite friends to a memorial gathering.

Dot is survived by daughter Cynthia (Jim Bach) Buckingham, of Salt Lake City, UT, and their daughters, Alissa (Jake) Ahearn and Kristina, and sons Doug (Linda), of Bluffton, SC, and Tim and his daughter, Maryssa, of Milwaukee, WI.

Dot retired from the Division of Epidemiology at the University of Minnesota in 1994. She had been an active volunteer from her early days as a room mother during her children’s grade school years to her involvement on several Brooklyn Center commissions and North Suburban Community Theatre productions. She also supported many local and state Republican candidates and was a member of the North Memorial Hospital Volunteers for 22 years. In 2016, Dot was honored for her years of service when she received the Hennepin County Female Senior Volunteer of the Year.

If desired, memorials may be sent to North Memorial Volunteers, Arthritis Foundation, or Good Samaritan Hospice–Nisswa, MN. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
