Dorothy “Dottie” Jean Anderson, 80, of Emily, passed away on October 3rd, 2024. Services will be held at 11am on Saturday, October 26th, 2024, at The Log Church in Crosslake.

Dottie was born on April 16th, 1944, to Melvin and Dorothy (Pond) Ponton in New London Connecticut. Her father was a career U.S. Navy Enlisted Sailor, and while she was young her family was stationed in Connecticut, California, and Hawaii. She attended Admiral Arthur W. Radford Highschool in Honolulu Hawaii, graduating in 1962. Her family was eventually restationed in Connecticut where she met Darold Anderson, a U.S. Navy Petty Officer, in 1963.

She married Darold in Quaker Hill Baptist Church in Quaker Hill Connecticut on July 3rd, 1965, and they recently celebrated 59 years of marriage. Shortly before marrying Darold, Dottie graduated as a Registered Nurse (RN) from the Backus Hospital School of Nursing in Norwich Connecticut in 1965.

Darold and Dottie were stationed in Key West Florida when he was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy in 1966. Later that year, they moved to Minnesota, Darold’s home, where they have lived ever since. Dottie had a passion for nursing, and worked as a cardiac care nurse at Fairview Southdale Hospital in Edina for many years. Darold and Dottie lived in Richfield and Bloomington, where they raised their family. While in Bloomington, Dottie began a new career in accounting. After she and Darold moved to Crosslake in 1996, and then Emily in 2001, she started her own business, Anderson Tax and Accounting Service where she served clients across the region until she retired in 2022.

Darold and Dottie have been members of the Crosslake Evangelical Free Church (the Log Church) for nearly 30 years, where she was a respected Group Leader in the Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) for over 27 years. Dottie was also an excellent soprano singer and was a member of several different singing groups and choirs throughout the years. She was an avid reader, but above all else, Dottie loved spending time with Darold and their family. She will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

Dottie is survived by her loving husband, Darold; children, Richard (Faith) Anderson and Katherine (Brandon) Christensen; grandchildren, Brittany Anderson and Dylan (Jordyn) Anderson; great grandchildren, Ollie and Kiko; and sister, Cindy Doro. She is preceded in death by her parents, Melvin Ponton and Dorothy Bustard, and brother, Cary Ponton.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Crosslake.
