Doris Sundquist

April 17, 1932 — December 7, 2013

Doris J. Sundquist, 81, of Baxter, MN was welcomed into Heaven on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Good Samaritan Village-Bethany in Brainerd, MN. At Doris's request no services are planned. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at a later date.

Doris Jane Dechaine was born on April 17, 1932 in Crow Wing Township, MN on her grandfather, Alfred Dechaine's farm. She grew up in Brainerd, attending Brainerd schools and was a 1951 graduate of Washington High School in Brainerd, MN. She worked at the Photo Finishing Shop until her marriage to Roger Sundquist on July 3, 1954 in Brainerd, MN. This couple was blessed with two children and later divorced. She retired from Potlatch at age 60 after 32 years of continuous service. Doris was an independent spirit who lived and died on her own terms.

In earlier years Doris enjoyed bowling and earned the Triple Score Award patch. She spent many enjoyable moments trying her luck in Las Vegas and at most of the casinos in the area. Doris was well known for her fabulous potato salad, ginger cookies, and fudge. Her hobbies included embroidery work, crocheting, and knitting. Spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren, was important. Doris was a member of St. Andrews/Brainerd Lakes Catholic Churches. She was also a member of the Quarter Century Club.

Doris will be greatly missed by her daughter, Cindy Mike) Kawalek; granddaughters, Melinda and Alicia Kawalek; great-granddaughter, Lily; niece, Sandi Clepper; and nephew, Tim Brelje. She was preceded in death by her mother, Delena Dechaine; son, Jeffery (Jeff) Sundquist; sister, Violet Brelje; and special aunt, Alice Dechaine.
Memorials are preferred to the American Lung Association, The American Diabetes Association, and National Kidney Foundation. The family would like to thank the doctors and nursing staffs at Essentia/St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, MN and St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN, and especially Dr. Roger Macy, who provided Doris
compassionate care for over 24 years.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
