Doris McCalvy, age 98, of Brainerd passed away Sunday, August 27, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society – Bethany, in Brainerd. Memorial services for Doris will be Saturday, September 2, at 11 am, at Light of the Cross Lutheran Church in Garrison, with a luncheon following the service. Visitation will be during the hour prior to service. Interment will be at Garrison Cemetery.
Doris Florence Stewart was born May 5, 1919 in Ft. Benton, Montana, to Palmer and Ida “Jean” (Engelstad) Stewart. She moved with her family to Minnesota, and grew up in Gatzke and then Pine Center. She was married to Donald McCalvy on November 4, 1937, in Pine Center. Don and Doris owned and operated McCalvy’s Bait and Tackle in Garrison for 23 years, and Doris very much enjoyed visiting with friends and customers there. She was widowed when Don passed away in 2002. As a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd and the American Legion Auxiliary, Doris spent time serving others. She was an outgoing woman, and had the gift of making others feel welcome and comfortable.
Doris is survived by her son, Gary (Norma) McCalvy, of Gladstone, Missouri; her grandchildren, Brian McCalvy and Dan (Lisa) McCalvy, both of Savage; and two great-grandchildren, Carson and Ava. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Ed Snodgrass; and her husband, Don McCalvy. Services entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service of Baxter.
Visitation from 10-11 am. Luncheon following service. Interment at Garrison Cemetery.
