Donovan Peterson, age 88, of Crosby and formerly Merrifield and St. Louis Park, passed away on Thursday, November 8, 2012, at his home. He was born to Victor and Mae (Montgomery) Peterson on August 14, 1924, in Huron, SD.
As a child, Don lived in several small towns in North Dakota and graduated from high school in Langdon, ND, in 1942. He went on to attend North Dakota State University until enlisting in the US Army, serving from 1942 to 1945 and earning the Combat Infantry Badge in Leyte PI, Okinawa, Japan. He was also awarded the Bronze Star and Purple Heart during his service in World War II. In 1951, Don earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Minnesota. He worked in clinical laboratories in North and South Dakota and Minneapolis. He was also a member of 5501 US Army Hospital from 1955-1977.
Don is survived by his children: Sandra Price (Fred), Jan Kimble, Brad Peterson (Mayra); grandchildren: Angela, Matthew, Tristan, Amanda, Sarah; great grandchildren: Garrett, Madeline, Megan, Andrew; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy "Dot" (Walbaum) Peterson; grandson, Todd Price; and sister, Genevieve Rasmussen.
Services will be 10 AM on Thursday, November 15, at Grace United Methodist Church, Pequot Lakes, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will be 12 PM on Friday, November 16, at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis.
