Donna Johnson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Donna Mae Johnson, who peacefully left us on September 28, 2024. She was a beloved wife, sister, mother, and grandmother, and her spirit will live on forever in our hearts.

Donna was born to Marian Jean Ottoson (Meagher) and Russell Swen Ottoson on May 30, 1965, at the Illinois Naval Base. After her father retired from the navy, the family returned home to Pine River, Minnesota, with Donna and her sisters, Kelly, Eleanor, and Allison. Donna attended Pine River High School where she was in the marching band, pompom girls, cheerleading, track and field, and was crowned homecoming queen in 1982. Donna, along with her four children, Trent, Andy, Lauren, and Jared, became part of the Pine River community. She tied the knot with Bud Johnson, the love of her life, on July 16, 1988.

One of her happiest places was Lake Hattie, where countless memories were made with family during the weekends, spent relaxing by the fire with a cup of wine. Donna also loved to travel, especially her memorable trip to Ireland where she kissed the Blarney Stone. She was very proud of her Irish heritage.

In 2007, Donna was diagnosed with primary progressive multiple sclerosis. For many years she bravely faced the challenges of this disease, demonstrating the strength and resilience throughout her journey.

She was devoted to her family and especially loved her grandchildren. She had a lust for learning, which she exercised by reading books and enjoyed exploring spiritual connection through massage and special stones. The holidays and birthdays were particularly special for her and were filled with joy and love. She loved to connect with her grandchildren with thoughtful gifts, provoking wonder and sharing her knowledge. Donna leaves a legacy in her 13 grandchildren: Elena, Nakoa, Dakota, Ben, McKenzie, Aubrey, Blake, Amelia, Caleb, Jake, Taylor, Easton, and Lennon. She will be dearly missed by her husband, Bud; children, Trent, Andy, Lauren (Jon), and Jared (Laura); her sisters, numerous nieces, friends, and family.

Services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2024, at Riverview Church in Pine River. A visitation will take place the hour prior to the service.
