Donald Rothmeier

Donald Bernard Rothmeier, 82, of Baxter, MN formally of Northfield, MN died peacefully at his home in Baxter on Monday, February 20th, 2017 with his wife and four daughters by his side. Services for Donald will be held at 12:00PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN on Monday, February 27, 2017 with visitation beginning at 11:00AM at the chapel. A light luncheon will follow the service in the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room. Interment with military honors will be provided at 2:00PM at the Minnesota State Veteran’s Cemetery in Little Falls, MN.

Donald was born on February 21, 1935 in Sleepy Eye, MN to Frank and Elizabeth (Niedecker) Rothmeier. Don grew up in Sleepy Eye and joined the Army when he was 18 and served in the Korean War in 1953. After his discharge, he attended Dunwoody for Automotive Body Work in Minneapolis and worked his entire career in that field. He married Joyce Hengel on January 5, 1955. Together, they had four children. They made their home in Northfield, MN for many years before retiring to the Brainerd Lakes Area.

Don had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed many hours of hunting and fishing. After his retirement, he was able to live his dream of owning a hobby farm of 20 acres in Pine River, MN.

Don is survived by his wife of 62 years, Joyce; four daughters, Lynne (Reed) Markuson, of Alexandria, Sally (Glen) Pratt, of Hermantown, Pam Roth (Mark Chalberg), of Dundas, and Sue (Gary) Moldaschel, of Northfield; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Don is also survived by his two siblings, Lucille Hanson, of Phoenix, AZ and Lloyd Rothmeier, of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Laverna Schmid; brother, Glenn Rothmeier; and sister, Dolores Nagel.
