Donald Nelson, age 86, of Pequot Lakes passed away Friday, February 10 at his home. He was born to Marshall and Alma Nelson in Pequot Lakes on July 19, 1925.

Don grew up neighbors to Clara Johnson and they married on October 7th, 1950. They spent most of their married years on Walking Horse Ranch raising horses and kids, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Don was known for his horse training, logging, many years of service to Sibley Township and his clever quips and one-liners, filled with "horse" sense.

Don is survived by his wife, Clara; children: Louise "Charli" Nelson (Jeff Bruch), Kathy Larson (Ken), Chris Nelson, Beth Schalow (Tim); son in law, Jon Lubke (Cindy); brothers: Emery Nelson (Hazel), John Nelson (Marlene), David Nelson (JoAnn); sisters: Carol Bandel (Merlin), Betty Hagestad (Grant), Helene Foss, Jeanette Nelson; brother-in-law, Ed Grosz; grandchildren: Tracy Godfrey (Wayne), Derek Larson (Andria), Nick Lubke, Wesley Nelson, Eva Remund (Brandon), Elin Ruscher (Tim), Lindsey Armstrong, Lucas Lubke, Sadie Dennis (James), Jacob Lubke, Chelsey Verdon, Quintin Lubke; great grandchildren: Emily, Connor and Alyssa Godfrey, Ben Larson, Josiah and Chloe Ruscher, Garrett and Olivia Remund and Audrey Dennis.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Connie Lubke; brothers, Ralph and Art; sisters, Darlene and Doris; and the infamous trick horse, Banner.

Services will be 11 AM on Wednesday, February 15 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes, with Pastor Donna Olsen officiating. Burial will follow in Our Savior's Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.
