Donald Moe

December 1, 1926 — February 6, 2011

Donald John Moe, age 84 of Motley, MN passed away at his home, on February 6, 2011. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday , February 12th, at the Staples United Methodist Church with Pastor Kathy Horn officiating. Family visitation will be at the church, one hour before the service. Internment will be at a later date at Camp Ripley.

Don was born December 6, 1926 in Twin Valley, MN to Walter B. Moe and Tillie Tollefsrud Moe. He grew up and graduated from Twin Valley High School. He is a veteran of both WWII and the Korean war. He got his teaching degree from Bemidji State College. He then started teaching in Bagley where he met and married Lois Sorenson Moe. He taught school in Bagley, Rockford, Clarissa and started teaching in Staples in 1963, until he retired in 1984. He received his Masters degree from the University of Arizona - Tucson in 1968. Don returned to Staples where he started several reading and other programs to help students in several areas of learning. He then went on to teach at the Staples Vocational School and to work as the Special Needs Coordinator for those students. He was one of the eight finalists for the Minnesota Teacher of the Year in 1967. He has been a member of Lions Club, American Legion, VFW, and of the Staples United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school for several years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother and two sisters.

He leaves a wife Lois, Daughter Marcene (Rick) Chaffin, of Deland, Florida, Sons Richard (Becky) Moe of Superior, WI, Dain (Melanie) Moe of Wyoming, MN. Grandchildren, Michael Chaffin, Andrew Chaffin, Brittany (Rich) Jones, Brandon Moe (special friend Christine Engen), Samantha Moe and Nicholas Moe, and three great-grandchildren Haley, Mikey and Josie. A sister Verona McPherson, brother Walter (Marcie) Moe, and many nieces and nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Chris Berg, Joel McPherson, Roy McPherson, Mike Moe, Mark Olson.
