Donald J. Klein
, formerly of Morris, died peacefully at his home in Baxter on Thursday, September 22, 2016, at the age of 89.
Don was born May 3, 1927 in Michigan, the son of Leo and Ida (Pross) Klein. He was a WW II Veteran, serving in the US Navy from 1942-1946. After his military service, Don married Viola Rauch and the couple moved to Morris, where Don worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. Don was active in local politics and enjoyed serving on the Morris City Council. He was a charter member of the 9F Sportsmanship Club and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. He served on the Morris Fire Department until his move to the Brainerd Area in 1993. Don enjoyed hunting, woodworking, jigsaw puzzles, and having coffee with the Rusty Zipper Club. He loved the time he spent with his family and he will always be remembered for his quick wit and many amazing stories.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers; and two sons, Donnie and Jamie. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Vi; daughters, Jennifer Bachmeier (Larry), of South Haven, and Jill Lesmeister (Neal), of Baxter; daughter-in law, Ann Thiery Klein, of Baxter; five grandsons; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Rose Cook (Dudley), of California and Kathy O’Brien (Don), of Baxter; brother Joe Klein (Barb), of Brainerd; and many nieces and nephews.
