Donald Johnson, 76, formerly of Crosslake, passed away on Friday, January 22, 2010 at Kerrville VA Medical Center, Kerrville, Texas. Funeral services will be on Saturday, January 30th, at 1:30 P.M. pm at American Legion Post 500, in Crosslake, MN, with visitation one hour prior to services. Interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery near Camp Ripley.
Donald Ernest Johnson was born to Ernest and Vivian (Bishop) Johnson on November 20, 1933 in St. Paul, MN. Don served in the Navy from 1952 to 1956 during the Korean conflict.
He was united in marriage to Muriel Buttler on November 30, 1962 in St. Paul. They moved to Crosslake in 1968. Don was a bus driver for Pequot School district for over 17 years. Muriel worked for The Brainerd Dispatch. Don was a Charter member of Crosslake American Legion Post 500. He was also a member of the Jenkins VFW and he was a Mason. Don was on the Crosslake volunteer fire department for over five years. He enjoyed golfing and flying, and was a member of the Brainerd Civil Air Patrol search and rescue team. Don was Cub Scout Master for Crosslake Pack #101. Don and Muriel retired and moved to Kerrville, Texas in 1998. Don volunteered at Kerrville VA Medical Center, serving over 6,000 hours as their van driver.
Don is survived by Muriel, his beloved wife of 47 years; sons, Wally (Tammy) Johnson of Little Falls, Bradley Johnson of Pillager, and Michael (Eumelia) Johnson of Las Vegas, NV; and grandchildren, Ajay, Dustin, Erika, Dante, and Gabie. He was preceded in death by his parents.
