Donald Gene Hopper, 79, of Pine River, MN, passed away on May 12, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. He was born on Oct 21, 1943, the 6th child of Clyde and Mildred, in the bustling city of Colo, Iowa. Don graduated from Pine River High School in 1961. He served in the United States Army Reserve 409th Infantry until released in Feb 1970.
After graduation, besides the Army Reserve, he worked in several industries in different capacities mostly self employed. He ultimately worked and retired from the USPS office in Brainerd.
Don is survived by two children, Reena Hopper (Chris) and Darcy Frison (Brian); two grandchildren, Alex and Cassie; a sister, Helen Fraser; and brother, Eldon Hopper (Ethel); along with several cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
Don had a love of people and the outdoors. He lived to be outdoors hunting, fishing and trapping. He was involved in the creation of the Pine River Gun Club and was active there for a long time. He was also a long time active member of the Pine River American Legion.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Pine River American Legion on Tuesday, May 16 from 4-6:00 PM. There will be a private burial with family at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Pine River Post 613 American Legion Auxiliary.
