Our Dad, Donald Hicks, passed away this morning; he was 88 years old. His funeral will be Tuesday September 20th, at 2 PM, at the First Baptist Church in Pillager. Visitation will be one hour prior to services, at the church.
Donald served in Korea from 1951 to 1953, as a sergeant. He served First Baptist Church in Pillager in several capacities, including as a Sunday school teacher and as Church President for several years. He was a Boys’ Brigade leader, helping make boys into young men (this included trips to BWCA every spring). He married Helen (Durst) in 1953 and was married for over 50 years. He farmed his entire life. He retired from the railroad, where he worked for 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion for 60 years, and served as Commander for many, many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and watching the Twins. He was as a mighty cedar among the trees, but now that mighty cedar is laid to rest.
Donald is survived by his children, Deb (Joe Logan), of Mason City, IA, Gene Hicks, of Eagan, Jay Hicks, of Pillager, and Jerry Hicks, of Pillager; his grandchildren, Garrett Johnson, Derek Hicks, Emily Hicks, Mia Hicks, Natasha Kosharek, Jason Hicks, Jeremy Hicks, Josiah Hicks, Janel Knight, Jorden Thatcher, Thresa Andrys, and Debbie Hicks; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ernest.
