Donald R. Eckmann, 90, of Pequot Lakes, MN died on Monday, July 16, 2018 in St. Cloud Hospital. Services for Don will be held at 12:30 p.m., Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Crosslake Lutheran Church in Crosslake. An ice cream social will follow.
Family and friends are invited to gather for the visitation from 5-7 p.m. Saturday evening at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, and from 12:00 to 12:30 at the church on Sunday. Interment with Military Honors will be held at Pelican Woods Cemetery in Breezy Point.
Donald was born on September 7, 1927 in Fargo, ND to Carsten and Grace (Brekke) Eckmann. They moved to Minneapolis in 1941. Don attended Washburn High School (Class of 1945) and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Business Administration. Donald married Beverlee Bridgeman on May 21, 1949 in Minneapolis, MN. He served in the United States Army (1952-54). Don’s career at Northern States Power Company spanned 40 years. He helped pioneer their computer operations, moved on to accounting and finance before becoming the General Manager of the North Dakota division. In his younger years he enjoyed building their cabin, woodworking, water skiing, running, square dancing and riding his motorcycle. More recently, Don enjoyed boating, living on the lake, and visiting with his wife Beverlee. Don had a passion for ice cream and chocolate…!
Donald is survived by his wife, Beverlee; children, Dr. David (Kathleen) Eckmann of St. Paul, MN, Steven Eckmann of San Antonio, TX, and Jeannie (Mark Schleiss) Bridgeman of St. Paul, MN; brother, Roger (Evelyn) Eckmann; and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and younger brother Dick.
Memorials preferred to Crosslake Lutheran Church (Youth Programs) and the Parkinson’s Foundation.
