Donald Droubie

October 8, 1938 — July 14, 2008

Donald Daniel Droubie was born October 8, 1938, the second of three sons of George and Marie (Bab) Droubie. After graduating from Humbolt High School in St. Paul, MN in 1956, Don obtained his education degree from The University of Wisconsin River Falls. Don utilized his degree by teaching in Cannon Falls, MN and West St. Paul, MN. He was united in marriage to Judy Jahnke on July 13, 1968. The couple moved to Staples, MN to begin their life together. Don continued his commitment to education in leadership as a principal, educational director and grant writer. Even after retirement (1995), Don assisted Hamline University with their out-state graduate education program. Don dedicated his life to bettering education for students and staff in the Staples area. He felt blessed for the many talented people he was able to encounter throughout his career.
Don was also committed to his community. He was a member of the Staples Rotary Club, Todd-Wadena County Operation Round-Up, Old Wadena Society, Relay For Life, and a past school board member. Don was active in his faith community and was an involved member of the Staples United Methodist Church.

Don enjoyed his retirement through his wood carving group, traveling, contributing to the Table of Knowledgeas well as spending time visiting with many friends and family; especially his grandchildren.

Don will be remembered most for the amazing impact he has had on others through his wisdom, encouragement, and actions. Even in his ten year battle with cancer, Don had a great sense of humor and continued to stay thoughtful, and optimistic. He understood and appreciated that his journey with cancer was a blessing. His dedication and love for people allowed him to be a positive example in the lives of each individual he touched even in the face of death.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to all our friends and the medical community who provided exceptional care to Don throughout his battle and the incredible support shown by the Staples and Mayo community.

Don will be dearly missed and forever remembered by his wife, Judy: his children, Jill (Brian) Waldhart of Appleton, WI, Paul (Mina) Droubie, of Champaign, IL, and John (Linda) Droubie, of Cambridge, MN; his five grandchildren, Jordan, Luke, Ryan, Madeline, and Cal; his brothers, George (JoAnne) Droubie, of West St. Paul, MN and Chuck (Leah) Droubie, of St. Paul, MN; his brother-in-law, Jim (Mary) Jahnke, of St. Paul, MN; and many other family, friends, and neighbors whom he loved and who loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Marie Droubie.
