Donald Ahlgren, 81, of Baxter, died Friday, July 1 at Lutheran Care Center in Little Falls, MN. Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM, Tuesday, July 5 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Reverend Hans Anderson officiating. There will be a visitation Monday evening from 5 until 7 PM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment will be at Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at Camp Ripley.
Donald was born June 20, 1924 to Adolf and Edithe (Osbourne) Ahlgren in Minneapolis. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1942. He played the trumpet in an old-time swing band. Donald was drafted into the Navy and served for nearly three years. After being discharged, he attended Business College. He was an auditor with Phillips Petroleum for 38 years; working primarily in Minnesota, but also spending five years in Oklahoma City. He and his wife, Dorothy moved to Brainerd in 1983 when Donald retired. Donald was a member of the Moose Lodge and the American Legion. He enjoyed collecting coins, baseball hats, and pens. He loved old movies and dancing. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and following Twins baseball. Don loved people.
He will be missed by his wife of 55 years, Dorothy; his children, David (Sabine), of Baxter, Daryl (Sylvia), of Maple Grove, and Darlene (Ron) Vogel, of Fountain Hills, AZ; his grandchildren, Dustin, Tanja, Eric, Maria, Stephanie, Greta, Daniel, and Michael; and his sister, June Anderson. Donald was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Eric.
