Don Snyder

Don T. Snyder, 80, of rural Pequot Lakes, passed away Tuesday, October 19, 2010 at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. Services for Don will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 23, 2010 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes. Family and friends are welcome to gather from 5-7 PM Friday evening at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes and one hour prior to services on Saturday at the church. Interment will be at Our Savior's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Don was born October 9, 1930 in Scott County, IA, the son of T.R. and Hilda (Copp) Snyder. After graduating from Wheatland High School, Don enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served his country in Korea and received a Bronze Star. In 1955, he was united marriage to Alice Kuhl. Don farmed in Iowa for a while before the couple purchased Spring Side Resort on Upper Gull Lake in 1963 which they operated until 1971. Later, they owned and operated Gulf Station in Pequot Lakes, now known as the Oasis Center. Don was the Chief of Police in Pequot Lakes for twenty years. He also worked as a rural mail carrier. A member of the American Legion and VFW, Don also enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time outdoors. He was a great story teller and liked to read and garden.

He will be missed by his wife, Alice; his children, Sheri McSherry, of Pequot Lakes, Kay (Steve) Snyder, of Sauk Rapids, and Scott (Wendy) Snyder, of Pequot Lakes; six grandchildren, Kelly (Pat), Leo, Jr., Kristin (Dan), Michael, Megan, Conner; and two great-grandchildren, Calen and Ava. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Robert; and son-in-law, Lt. Leo P. McSherry.
