Don Fagerstrom of Jenkins was taken to Heaven on October 17, 2013. He was born on December 14, 1936, in Rockford, Illinois, to Thorsten and Isabelle Fagerstrom. He married Marlene Schmidt on April 9, 1960. He began his career as a meat cutter in Rockford, and then in 1968, he and Marlene moved back to her hometown of Pequot Lakes and owned and operated Don's IGA until 1978. Known to his friends as "Butcher", Don cut meat in Crosslake and Pequot Lakes until his retirement. His whistle could often be heard throughout the store.
Don's passions were his family and his 1951 Chevy. He was a devoted Christian who had read the Bible through multiple times and knew for certain where he would go when he left this earth. He is now reunited with his beloved dog, Maggie.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 53 years, Marlene; daughter, Lani and her boyfriend, John Jensen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don and Myrt Schmidt; nephew, Steve (Kathy) Saxvold; sister, Claudette (Don) Thor; nieces and nephews, Donnie, Kristi, Julie, and Jeff.
Services will be 2 PM, Tuesday, October 22 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Pequot Lakes.
