Dolores Marriam Higgins, 83 died August 17, 2005 at Greater Staples Hospital. Funeral Services will be Saturday, August 20, 2005 at 10:30 AM at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Reverend Steve Sveom officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, August 19, 2005 from 5 ? 7 pm at the Brenny Funeral Home and 1 hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Hill Cemetery on Monday, August 22, 2005.
Dolores Higgins was born on November 12, 1921 to Axel and Martha (Larson) Hanson in Michigan. As a young child they moved to Murdock, MN where she grew up and attended Murdock High School graduating with the class of 1941. After graduation she and her older sister Bernice lived and worked in the Mpls area. On June 28, 1947 she married Lester William Higgins, in Murdock, MN. She then moved with her husband to his farm in Motley, MN. This marriage was blessed with three children Leonard, Karen and Nancy. They raised their children on their farm north of Motley and were life long members of Faith Lutheran Church. She was a long time waitress at El-ray café in Motley retiring in 1986. Her husband Lester passed away in 1981 and in 1982 she moved to Staples where she resided until her death. Her joy in life was spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed laughing, joking and teasing, putting puzzles together, bingo and watching the Minnesota Twins.
She is survived by her brother, Walfred (Grace) Hanson, of Minneola, FL; son, Leonard (Sally) Higgins of McGregor, MN; her daughter Karen (Frank) Williams of Staples, MN; son-in-law Wayne Dagen of International Falls, MN; eight grandchildren, Robert (Lori) Williams of Staples, MN; Nathan (Tammy) Higgins of Prior Lake, MN; Bridget (Shane) Gerard of Staples, MN; Michael Dagen of Bemidji, MN; Casey (Quincy) Higgins of Grand Rapids, MN; Melissa (Max) Gullette of Blackduck, MN; Patrick (Katie) Williams of Staples, MN; Chad Higgins of McGregor, MN and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Higgins; daughter Nancy Dagen; sister Bernice Meyer; parents Axel & Martha Hanson; and an infant granddaughter.
