Derald Miller

Derald E. Miller, age 82, of Staples died September 26, 2008 at his home. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday September 30th at 10:00 am at the Church of Christ in Staples with Reverend Barry Klein officiating. Friends may call at the Church on Monday evening from 6-8 and one hour prior to the service. Derald Edward Miller was born August 3, 1926 in Bertha, MN the son of Harry and Mamie (Cole) Miller. He attended school in Staples. On August 31, 1946 he married Juanita Coleman. He and Juanita farmed south of Staples, and he worked for Northern Pacific Railroad. They operated the Southside Mini Mart and owned Miller Gulf Grocery and Gas and Miller True Value. During his retirement he painted and drove tractor for R.D. Offutt. Derald enjoyed the Twins, the Vikings, and attending Staples Motley School sports, especially to watch his grandchildren. He was a trustee at the Church of Christ and served by doing groundswork and painting. Derald is survived by his loving wife, Juanita; children, Marilyn (Harold) Holst of Staples and Dennis (Rayma) of Staples; 5 grandchildren, Debbie (Jeff) Sterriker, Darren Holst, Derek (Jen) Holst, Chad Miller, all of Staples, and Ken Holst of Brainerd; 2 great granddaughters, MacKenzie and Shania Holst; 4 great grandsons, Brandon, Brent, Brian Sterriker all of Staples, and Anthony Miller of Bluffton; 2 sisters, Arlene Conley of Anaheim, CA and Shirley (Wally) Thompson of Staples; 3 brothers, Eldon (Margie) of Atkins, IA, Carroll (Donna) of Bertha, MN, and Blayne (Helen) of Staples; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
