Dr. Dennis Charles Denger, Sr., 86, of Lake Shore, passed away Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Good Samaritan Village – Bethany in Brainerd. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Living Savior Lutheran Church in Lake Shore. Family and friends are invited to gather one hour prior to services. Interment will be at a later date at the Rest Haven Cemetery in Des Moines, IA.
Dennis was born June 19, 1932, in Des Moines, IA, the son of Charles P. and N. Elaine (Sawdey) Denger. He grew up in the Des Moines area and graduated from North High School before continuing his education at the University of Iowa and Drake University. In 1959, he earned his Doctorate of Dental Surgery Degree from the University of St. Louis. While attending college, he married Lucille Howk. The couple created Grandview Dental in Des Moines, a practice he grew and enjoyed for 43 years. In 2005, they moved to their lake home in Lake Shore.
Dennis and Lucy were blessed with a son, Dennis C. Denger, Jr. Dennis enjoyed the time he spent with his son’s boy scouts group and all the hiking and camping they were able to do together. He also enjoyed hunting elk, deer and pheasants. He also used his love of flying to help children in need. As a Shriner he would transport burn victims to Cincinnati for their checkups. Later in life, Dennis began working with wood and mastered the Intarsia technique. He was a member of Living Savior Lutheran Church.
He will be missed and is survived by his wife of 65 years, Lucy; his son, Dennis C. (Karen), Jr., of Topeka, KS; and many other family including, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents.
