Della Deshayes, age 91, of Swanburg died Thursday, May 1, 2003 at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd. Della Faye Havoner was born July 4, 1911 in Stewartville, MN, to Charles and Minnie (Pearson) Deshayne. Following her father?s death she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Henry Burgess. She attended school in Markville, MN and then at the Swanburg country school. After school she worked in Duluth for a short time. She was united in marriage to Elie Deshayse, her husband of 50 years, in Brainerd. In 1941 the family moved to Bremerton, WA, where Della worked in the Bainbridge shipyards for four years. They moved back to Swanburg, and Della worked at Manhatten Beach Lodge. She was widowed in 1980. She lived in her own home until she became ill three weeks ago. Della was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Swanburg, and was very active in church volunteer activities.
Della Deshayes is survived by two daughters: Gloria Goldenstein of Coon Rapids, and Annette (Ronald) Schetka of Swanburg; a half-sister Myrtle Marlowe of Nimrod; 9 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her stepfather Henry Burgess; a son Dwaine Deshayse; 4 sisters: Alvira, Evelyn, Edith, and Beryl; and 4 brothers: Leslie, Lyle, Gene, and Ronald.
Funeral services will be Monday, May 5, 2:00 PM, at Faith Lutheran Church in Swanburg, with Reverend Marlys Korman officiating. Interment will be at Swanburg Cemetery. Friends may visit on Sunday, May 4, 5-7:00 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake, and at the church for one hour prior to the service on Monday. Arrangements are with Brenny Funeral Chapel of Crosslake.
