Dean "Swede" R. Edman, 66, of Pequot Lakes, MN died on Monday, February 23, 2015 at St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, MN. A Memorial Service for Swede will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN at 1:00PM with visitation starting at 11:00AM. A Reception will follow services at the Brenny Funeral Chapel Reception Room. Interment will take place at a later date.
Swede was born on March 13, 1948 in Alexandria, MN to Andrew and Grace (Bestel) Edman. He was baptized and confirmed in Kensington, MN. Swede graduated from Kensington High School. During high school he went to Montana and worked on the Kolstad Ranches. Following high school he attended Dunwoody Institute specializing in woodworking. He was a paratrooper for the National Guard from 1968-1973. He worked at FMC in Brooklyn Park and also in construction before moving to the Brainerd Lakes Area in 1986. Swede married Ann Snobl at Itasca State Park on June 28, 1986. He worked as a self employed building contractor as well as he and Ann owning and operating a fishing launch at Headquarters Resort on Mille Lacs Lake for four years. Swede enjoyed feeding the deer, gardening, growing flowers, camping, cooking, and baking. He was an avid sports and football fan. Swede was a passionate hunter and fisherman and he also loved woodworking and refurnishing furniture. He was very proud of his Swedish heritage.
Swede is survived by his wife, Ann; daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Horst of Plymouth, MN; and grandchildren, Alyssa and Ryan. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Andy; and one infant sister. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, MN.
