David Tervonen

David Andrew Tervonen, 66, of Staples, passed away Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Harmony House in Motley. A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 23, 2018 at Staples Alliance Church. Family and friends are welcome to gather one hour prior to services. A luncheon will follow. Interment with a Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at Chisholm Cemetery. There will be a reception to follow at First Baptist Church.

David was born September 17, 1951, in Chisholm, the son of Toivo and Helena (Rae) Tervonen. After high school, he continued his education and received BS Degrees in English Education and Elementary Education as well as a Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology. David dedicated 22 years to teaching at Victory Christian Academy and Hibbing High School. In 1972, he was united in marriage to Patty Hanson. David was a member of the Staples Men’s Chorus and enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. He also was a fan of all sports. David cherished the time he was able to spend with his family.

He will be missed by his wife, Patty; children, Noelle (Mike) Hudalla, of Staples, Leah (Brian) Wiger, of Columbia, SC, David (Meghan) Tervonen, of Bemidji, and Shayna Tervonen, of Stacy; siblings, Ulla (Derek) Smith, of Monticello and Anneli Bakk, of AK; grandchildren, Walker Tervonen and Isaac Wiger; and a niece and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Allan.

David’s battle with Alzheimer’s Disease and Lyme Disease was a hard struggle. His family would appreciate memorials, in lieu of flowers, for research of those diseases.
