David Walter Owens passed away at the age of 84 on Wednesday April 12 in his home in Nisswa, Minnesota. Funeral Services will take place at 11 AM on Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Nisswa, MN. A visitation will take place one hour prior to services, and interment will be at a later date at Lakeshore Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Lakeshore, MN.
David W. was born to Walter and Helen Owens on January 30, 1939 in Minneapolis, Mn. He grew up in Robbinsdale with his brother Dennis. He married his wife of 61 years on July 29, 1961. Together they had three children, Andrew, David and Elizabeth. He is also survived by his three grandchildren, Courtney, Alexis and Kami.
He taught Social Studies and Government at Jackson Junior High in Champlin for over 34 years. He was also a member of the Local Asbestos Union #34 where he proudly helped construct several skyscrapers that are still part of the Minneapolis skyline today.
An avid outdoorsman and sportsman, he loved spending his time in nature and was passionate about hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed coaching several sports as a teacher at Jackson Jr High and helped pioneer the Women’s sporting program by being the first coach to allow a woman on the Men’s Tennis team. He loved traveling and meeting people from around the world and had a true lust for life. He will be fondly remembered by all who were fortunate to have him cross their path and he sadly missed by his family and friends.
