David Royce Lovering, 77, passed away peacefully at home on January 29th, 2024. He was born on September 27th, 1946, to Royce and Joyce (McCall) Lovering in Granite Falls, MN. He graduated from Granite Falls High School in 1964 and joined the US Army in 1965 where he served in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He returned home and moved to the twin cities where he met and married Christie Mertz in 1977. Dave and Christie had their first child (Zach) in 1979 and moved to the Brainerd Lakes area where Dave went to technical school and started a small engine repair business. They moved to Pine River where they had their second child (Becky). Dave eventually became the Kitchigami Library’s bookmobile driver and retired in 2004.
Dave was a big hearted guy who loved his family, Jesus, and music. He had a soft spot for the underdog and people that were hurting. He could be found greeting people at church or singing on the worship team. He enjoyed reading, birdwatching, and spending time with his wife, kids, and 5 grandkids. Dave could talk to anyone and excelled at finding a spot next to someone who could use a chat. He suffered physically, but was chronically cheerful, and a source of inspiration rather than pity. He had a deep love for Jesus, and the hope that is found in Him.
He is survived by wife, Christie; son, Zach (Marnee) Lovering, Eden Prairie, MN; daughter, Becky (Zach) Broom, Pequot Lakes, MN; and grandchildren, Emily, Lewis, Ian, Mitchell and Nora.
He is preceded in death by parents, Royce and Joyce; sisters, Mary (Olson) and Kathy (Sanderson); and niece, Sherri.
Dave’s family welcomes everyone to a celebration of Dave’s life and the eternal hope he had, at Riverview Church on February 10th, 2024 at 1:00pm.
