David Hamilton, age 89, of Backus, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016, at Dignity and Grace Assisted Living in Backus. He was born to Thomas Ray and Cora (Arbogast) Hamilton on September 22, 1926, in Backus.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 54 years, Betty (Holden) and his wife of 8 years, Helen (Starr-Andrews); brothers: William Hamilton, Fay Hamilton, Chester Hamilton, Vernon "Ole" Hamilton; and sisters: Janet Reiter McFarling and Dolly Borman.
He is survived by his children: Ray (JoAnn) Hamilton, Joy (Dennis) Ogren, Ron (Tammy) Hamilton, Jenny (Thad) Grider, Julie (Steve) Cowles, Roy (Quinn) Hamilton; 24 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.
David worked for the railroad his entire career. He retired from the Burlington Northern line after 40 years of service. David was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Backus where he was actively involved for many years. He enjoyed hunting and trapping and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the employees at Dignity and Grace Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for their excellent care of David.
Services will be 2 PM on Thursday, July 14, at Lakeside Baptist Church, Backus. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5 to 7 PM at Kline Funeral Home, Pine River, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Backus.
