David Lawerence Cooper, 54, Motley, MN, died Friday, March 25, 2016 at his home. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, March 31, 2016 at 11 AM at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, with one hour of visitation time prior to the service.
David was born on May 28, 1961 in Wadena, MN, son of Lawerence and Thelma (Snook) Cooper, Sr. He attended schools in Verndale, Minneapolis and Staples and grew up in the Staples-Leader-Wadena (MN) area. He was united in marriage with Pamela K. Schmitz on October 20, 1984 at Motley, MN. He served in the US Army building bridges and broke his back while serving in Panama City when a large culvert rolled over him. He retired to his home in Motley and enjoyed doing mechanical work for family and friends. He had worked at Orton's in Staples and also at Card's Auto Body.
David enjoyed working on cars, working on the house, playing catch with his son, playing with Emily (his dog). He enjoyed sitting outside in the gazebo, grilling, fishing and hunting with his son, Russell. He also enjoyed sci-fi and cartoons. He was a good family man, husband and dad. His family remembers him for doing everything slow, but he liked fast cars.
David is survived by his wife: Pam of Motley; son: Russell of Staples; siblings: Cindy (Eddie) Holland of Louisiana; May Gunter of Rolla, Missouri; Bruce Cooper of Louisiana; Heather (CJ) Jaramillo of Grand Rapids, MN; Twilla Cooper of Grand Rapids, MN; Tuesday Weekly of Wadena, MN; and Lawerence (Amber) Cooper, Jr., of Blaine, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lawerence and Thelma Cooper, Sr.; a sister: Delaine; and a nephew: Quinton. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples, MN.
