David Luell Carlson, age 73, of Crosslake, died Wednesday, November 10, 2004, at St. Joseph?s Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born May 19, 1931 in Tracy, to Guftaf ?Shorty? and Hannah (Swan) Carlson. At the age of seven, he moved with his family to Swanburg, where he grew up. After graduating from Pine River High School, he served in the Army from 1952-1960. Following his honorable discharge he worked as a brick mason for McDonald Construction in Brainerd for 23 years. He was united in marriage to Carolyn McDonald November 23, 1984, and loved her children as his own. After McDonald Construction closed, David worked as a brick mason for John Carlson and then for Trana Masonry until his retirement two years ago. David was a member of Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake. He was active in the Knights of Columbus, and belonged to the American Legion, Post 500, in Crosslake. He enjoyed deer hunting and snowshoeing. A patient and easy-going man, David enjoyed ?puttering? around his home and caring for his yard.
David is survived by Carolyn, his wife of nearly twenty years; his children, Tim (Cindy) Walter, of Hutchinson, and Melissa (Troy) Britton, of Brainerd; grandchildren Ashley Walter, Marissa, Patrick, and Jordan Walter, and Morgon, Emily, and Caleb Britton; and siblings Allan (Arlene) Carlson, of Washington, Vern (Eileen) Carlson, of Swanburg, Donald (Arlyn) Carlson, of Swanburg, and Judy Raph, of Swanburg. He was preceded in death by his parents and three children, Suzette, Cathryn, and Kyle Walter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 13, at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Heart Catholic Church in Crosslake, with Reverend Father Dennis Hoffman officiating. Interment will be at Swanburg Cemetery, with military honors provided by the Crosslake American Legion, Post 500. Friends may visit at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Crosslake Friday, November 12, 5-7 p.m., with parish prayers at 7. There will also be visitation at the church during the hour prior to Mass on Saturday.
