Darwin A. Simons, 64, of Pillager died at his home on Monday, May 16, 2011. Services for Darwin will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Pillager with Pastor McNeal officiating on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Interment at the Wildwood Cemetery in Pillager.
Darwin was born on October 30, 1946 in Brainerd, MN to Harry and Jeanette (Edeburn) Simons. While in school Darwin worked two summers for the forestry service, before starting work at Burlington Northern Railroad at age seventeen. He worked for the railroad for thirty-four years until his retirement. Darwin loved traveling to Canada for fishing and hunting trips. Car racing was also a favorite pastime and coon hunting was a hobby Darwin enjoyed in his younger years. His greatest joy was his family and spending time with his grandchildren.
Darwin is survived by his son, DeWayne; brother, Pete (Barb) Simons; sisters, Deanie (Lonnie) Hines and Rita (Jim) Harrah; many nieces and nephews; fiancée, Nadine Brackin; Nadine's daughters, Theresa, Tracy, Trisha, and Tina; fourteen whipper snappers (grandchildren); and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; parents, Pat and Shorty; and brother, David.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
