Darryl Skallet

Darryl Gene Skallet (84) of Pequot Lakes Minnesota passed away peacefully on February 24, 2024. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday March 2, 2024, at 11:00am at the Kline-Brenny Funeral Chapel in Pequot Lakes (30208 Lilac Drive, Pequot Lakes). There will be a visitation held one hour prior to the start of the service at the funeral home. 

He was preceded into death by his wife Marylou Skallet, parents Alton and Evelyn Skallet, brothers Alton (Punky) and Richard Skallet.  He is survived by his sons David (Karen) Skallet, Daniel (Sherry) Skallet, Daughter Dawn Thompson (Joe), and children of Marylou Skallet, 12 Grandchildren and 9 Great Grandchildren.

Darryl was born in Pennington County Minnesota where he grew up on a Dairy farm, he graduated from Thief River Falls High School in 1957 and shortly after moved to Minneapolis to embark on a new adventure where he started his first job as a plumber and shortly after began work for Fruehauf Corporation as a mechanic. A couple of years later he went to work for Midwest Printing and remained in the printing industry for the remainder of his career. Throughout his printing career he advanced to lead pressman and Supervisor.  His job took him to several countries, but his most exciting trips were to Japan and Europe.

He married Marylou in 1994, and in 2001 he and Marylou retired and moved to Pequot lakes to their lake home. Marylou became ill in 2004 and Darryl became her primary care giver, always on the ready to assist and help her when needed. 

He had a passion to help others and could fix anything.   He was a life member of the Sons of the American Legion and former Commander of the Son’s of the American legion/Pequot Lakes Post  49 where he spent countless hours volunteering at omelet breakfasts and assisting with building the Veterans Memorial Bog walk.  His hobbies included fishing, hunting and Casinos…...he never could pass up a good pull tab box!

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
