Darrell Slotrem

Darrell Lloyd Slotrem, age 82, passed away peacefully on October 3, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. He was born on July 22, 1942, in Minneapolis, MN, to Lloyd and Edith Slotrem. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis where he met his high school sweetheart, Carol Lucas, and later married on May 11, 1963. In 1976 Darrell moved his wife and two daughters to the Brainerd Lakes Area to open his own business of 36 years, Darrell’s Auto Body, and later adding on Raceway Carwash. He took great pride in building his business and providing for his family. Upon retirement Darrell and Carol had more time to travel but they mostly enjoyed embracing their time at their Roy Lake home. 

Darrell was a kind, gentle, loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He cherished his family and was extremely proud of his two grandsons, “they could do no wrong”.

He is survived by and will be greatly missed by his wife, Carol, two daughters, Cheryl (Brett) Sande of Miltona, MN and Bonnie (Jim) Gardiepy of Lake Shore, MN his two grandsons, Garret and Grant Gardiepy; siblings, Darlene (Tim) Hastings, Barbara Sackett, Duane (Sally) Slotrem, Debra (Randy) Plowman; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Edith Slotrem; brother-in-laws, Larry Putnam, James Sackett, Floyd Zaffke, and Mike Jackson; sister-in-laws, Marcia Zaffke and Patricia Putnam.

A special thank you to the staff at Caring Heart Senior Community in Pequot Lakes for their support, love and care of Darrell.

Services will be held on Friday October 11, 2024, from 1:00pm to 3:00pm at the Brenny Family Funeral Chapel in Baxter.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Darrell’s memory are preferred to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
