Darrell William Hove, 66, of Staples, passed away peacefully Saturday, August 15, 2015, surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren at his home. Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, August 19 at Faith Lutheran Church in Staples with Pastor Steve Sveom officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather Tuesday evening at the Brenny Funeral Chapel from 5-7 PM and again on Wednesday morning one hour prior to services at the church. Interment with Military Honors will take place at Evergreen Hill Cemetery in Staples.
Darrell was born December 8, 1948, in Fergus Falls, MN, the son of Willard and Josephine (Spilman) Hove. After graduating from high school, Darrell served in the US Army. In 1973, he married Anita Mertens at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. The couple raised their family and farmed in the Staples Area. Darrell also stayed busy by transporting cattle and then later in life driving charter and school buses. He made many friends on his trips to the casino.
Darrell enjoyed the farming life. He was a true outdoorsmen who liked four-wheeling, camping, fishing and gardening. Darrell was a jack-of-all-trades and you could call on him anytime to fix anything. His big heart and caring nature was always evident. Above all else, Darrell loved his family - especially being able to spend time with his children and grandchildren.
He will be missed by many and is survived by his wife, Anita; children, Jodi (Cory) Lukken, of Battle Lake, Jennifer (Eric) Reiman, of Aldrich, Craig (Jenny) Hove, of Staples, and Kevin (Ciara) Hove, of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Haley, Brandon, Abbigail, Derek, Kaden, Jasmyne, and Konnor; mother, Josephine Hove, of Motley; siblings, Beatrice (Clark) Meech, of Sebeka, Janice (Ron) Knodel, of White Sulpher Springs, MT, Dale (Brenda) Hove, of Motley, Dean Hove, Staples, Dan (Amy) Hove, of Roseau, and Duane Hove, of Starbuck, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Tyler Reiman; father, Willard; nephews, Trenton and Michael; in-laws, Clarence and Opal Mertens; and his grandparents, aunts and uncles.
