Darlene Saathoff

Darlene Mary Saathoff, 75, of Baxter, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester on Friday, June 30, 2017. Mass of Christian Burial will be at St. Francis Catholic Church in Brainerd on Thursday, July 6, at 11:00 am. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 5, from 4-7 pm, at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter, with the Rosary at 4:00 and prayer service at 6:45. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services on Thursday.

Darlene was born September 21, 1941 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Elmer and Marie (Raymond) Miller. She attended elementary school in Schaller, IA. Darlene graduated from Jackson High School in Jackson, MN in 1959, and went on to attend Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. On June 8, 1963 Darlene was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Donald Saathoff. Aside from being a homemaker and raising their three children, Darlene worked for the family business, Jake’s Price Fighter Foods in Brainerd for 13 years. In 1992, the couple sold the business and Darlene retired. She enjoyed playing bridge, participating in social clubs, and volunteering extensively for her church, St. Francis. Darlene’s favorite pastime was being with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren.

Darlene is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Don Saathoff of Baxter; her children, Brad (Karri) Saathoff of Rapid City, SD, Bryan (Claire) Saathoff of Chaska, and Mary (Jon) Schloemer of Baxter; grandchildren, Fletcher and Elise Christian, Lucia and William Saathoff, and Taylor, Brenna and Greta Schloemer; her brother, Elmer Miller; in-laws, Darrel Saathoff, Lois Saathoff, and David (Patti) Saathoff. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Marie Miller; sister and brother-in-law, Bonnie and Romane Eckerman; and her sisters-in-law, Vivian Miller and Virginia Saathoff. In lieu of flowers, family would prefer memorials to the St. Francis of the Lakes Catholic School Foundation or Birthright Inc. of Brainerd.
